Smaller bags

I wanted to create some smaller purses for a different use. I used the same violet velvet bouclé as for the larger bag and added a floral cotton (a beautiful  vintage Rubelli) for details. I think the combination looks fresh!

A volte serve una borsa  più piccola. Così ho usato lo stesso bouclé vellutato viola del borsone grande aggiungendo un tessuto floreale (uno stupendo Rubelli vintage) per le rifiniture. Trovo la combinazione fresca e primaverile!

These light blue bags are even smaller and more elegant purses, but really simple to sew.

Queste borsette celesti sono ancora più piccole e più eleganti, ma semplicissime da cucire.

Since the jacquard textile was nice on both sides I ended up doing two, one of the right lighter side and one of the darker reverse side which I actually prefer!

 Il tessuto era bellissimo su tutti e due lati, quindi per una ho usato il diritto più chiaro e per l'altro rovescio più scuro che trovo ancora più bello!

New bag

Hello, my name is Sabine, and I'm the other half of Tandem Bags. I have always tried to find time to do something with my hands: drawing, painting, crafting, knitting and sewing, it just makes me happy. I used to sew clothes to myself.  The latest thing is sewing bags - and I discovered this passion thanks to Laura!
Ciao, mi chiamo Sabine e sono l'altra metà di Tandem Bags. Ho sempre cercato di trovare il tempo di fare qualcosa con le mie mani, perché mi rende felice: disegnare, dipingere, fare bricolage, la maglia o cucire. Una volta mi cucivo i vestiti. Grazie a Laura ho cominciato a cucire delle borse!

This is one of the newest bags and I've used two different textiles. The white wool with the emroidery is one of my favourits. When I showed the bag at home, my kids thought that I had used the cushions from the sofa to sew this one, but actually it was a leftover piece that I had cherished for long. I still have one small cut but haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Questa è una delle ultime nate dove ho abbinato due tessuti. La lana bianca con il ricamo floreale è sempre stata una mia favorita. I miei figli credevano che avessi tagliato i cuscini del divano, ma ovviamente era un pezzo avanzato che però avevo custodito per anni. Ne ho ancora un pezzetto, ma ancora non so cosa ne farò.

Sabiha's Exhibition

Sabi Westoby is the friend of mine who infused me the passion for sewing showing and offering me some of her beautiful creations. I admire her strong personality and sparkling liveliness and I am so glad to have met her on my path.
Sabi Westoby è l'amica che mi ha trasmesso la passione per il cucito mostrandomi e regalandomi alcune delle sue bellissime creazioni. Ammiro la sua spiccata personalità e l'effervescente vivacità. Sono molto felice di averla incontrata sul mio cammino.

She started as a quilter maker and recently has evolved to a mixed media artist. She came to patchwork and quilting in 1998. After ten years of quilt making, she experimented how to dye, print and batik with Bren Boardman.
Ha iniziato realizzando quilt e recentemente si è diventata un'artista di tecnica mista. Ha esordito con la tecnica patchwork e quilting nel 1998. Dopo 10 anni di tecnica quilting, sperimenta come tingere, stampare e dipingere batik con  Bren Boardman.

Her latest challange is to develop monochrome themes. I suggest you to have a look at her collection: I love its freshness and originality. Fabulous!

A Vera Bradley as Christmas gift

This is the gift I got at Christmas from my guests Nick and Jennifer that stayed with me at Ancora del Chianti last summer. Questo è il regalo di Natale dei miei ospiti Nick e Jennifer che hanno soggiornato da me all'Ancora del Chianti la scorsa estate.

When I confessed my passion for sewing bags, Jen suggested to look up on the internet about Vera Bradley creations. I had never heard of it before and you find here the funny story of what I discovered.

Quando confessai la mia passione per il cucito e le borse, Jen mi suggerì di guardare su internet le creazioni di Vera Bradley. Non avevo mai sentito parlare di Vera Bradley fino a quel momento e qui trovi la buffa storia che ho scoperto.

This confortable, bright coloured bag with a lively pattern is really well manufactured and full of original details we can keep in mind for our future creations.

Questa comoda borsa dai colori sgargianti e dall'allegro motivo fa parte della collezione Deco Daisy e propone degli spunti interessanti da tener presente per le nostre future creazioni.

First of all I love the lining inside which clashes with the pattern of the bag: so unpredictable!!


Prima di tutto mi piace la fodera che fa a cazzotti con la stoffa della borsa: così imprevedibile!!

Second I appreciated the refined detail of the invisible magnetic catch, under the fabric. Nice touch!


Poi ho apprezzato la raffinatezza delle chiusure magnetiche invisibili della tasche esterne e fissate sotto la stoffa. Bel tocco!




I hope I have time for "driving" my sewing machine soon!

Tutorial of a reversible elegant bag

This is RITA: the most elegant and versatile bag I have ever sewn. I found a thick double face velvet/shining fabric and I wanted to exploit its caracteristic as it best.

Questa è RITA: la borsa più elegante e versatile che abbia mai cucito. Mi è capitata questa stoffa spessa double face velluto/lucida e volevo sfruttare le sue caratteristiche al meglio. 

I played with the concept of reversability. As every busy woman switch different roles in day by day life, the bags reflect and help in this magic. Thus RITA is perfect for the ones who jump from the office/shopping to the theatre with prettiness.

Ho giocato con il concetto di reversibilità. Come ogni donna indaffarata che deve alternarsi nei diversi ruoli durante la giornata, così la borsa si trasforma con lei e l'aiuta in questa sfida quotidiana: infatti RITA è la borsa pefetta per chi salta dall'ufficio/shopping al teatro con leggiadria.

Handbags from Washington

Passion for sewing and for handbags is so contagious!!

Gunnel is a Swedish dear friend of mine and for several times guest at  Ancora del Chianti B&B. She has the opportunity of travellling a lot during the year. While she was in Washington visiting the National Museum of Women in the Arts, she couldn't help to take this picture and send to me. She also sews and she sent me a lovely apron as Christmas present. Her other passion is painting watercolours. One of the latest I received is her summerhouse in Sweden. Thank you Gunnel and keep in touch!

My first bag: LOLA

First of all I would like to tell you how everything started.

My name is Laura, mother of 2 boys: 4 and 7 y.o. I run a family B&B Ancora del Chianti near Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. I work at home as I live in the very farm house where the rooms of the B&B are. I have been running the Bed and Breakfast for 10 years now with fun and professionality, meeting people from all over the world and sharing passion for nature, art and craft with them.

In 2009 I also started a blog on my life at Ancora del Chianti. I am a creative persons and most of my works are also in the guests' rooms. I love painting, reclying stuff, cooking and from 2011 I can add: SEWING!!
I think that I am close to be addicted to sewing now!  Actually I have been meeting so many ladies, guests at the B&B Ancora del Chianti, and friends all around the world that introduced me to the secret delight of sewing. They showed me their works and tutorials and most important, they explained what sewing meant for them.

So, in November 2010, while I was wandering on a rainy day in Bordeaux, France, I found this remnant of upholstery textile in a dusty and dark shop and it was love at first sight. When I came back home at our friends’, I reported about my shopping and my projects to Julie, our lovely French host. Surprisingly she confessed her passion for sewing and showed me her last works. I could not believe that sewing addiction was so contagious!

Once back home in Greve in Chianti, I spent about a week of intense work in the tranquillity of the winter Chianti countryside in order to understand how to make a bag out of a flat piece of textile. I must admit that I have been doing several experiments (doing and a lot of ….. undoing) but I made it and in the end Lola came to life. Lola is my first handmade bag and I am so proud of it.

Now Lola is on the way to its new home abroad and I will keep you uptodated.
